The final and most enhanced model of the legendary “Big Healey” series, the Mark III embodies the essence of the classic British sports cars of the 1960s. The BJ8 was built between 1964 and 1968, and attracted a large community of devoted fans as a result of its primal power. This car was made for driving – and the driver had better be up to the task!

The Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 is powered by a 2.9 litre inline six-cylinder engine with 150 hp at 5,250 rpm. With torque of 214 Nm at 3,000 rpm, this engine offers impressive acceleration and pulling power. This powerful piece of machinery reaches top speeds of 193 km/h and can accelerate from 0-100 km in less than 11 seconds.
The Austin-Healey has independent front suspension with ball-jointed wishbones and coil springs, as well as a rigid rear axle equipped with trailing arms and coil springs. The four-speed gearbox with overdrive enables sporty and precise gear changes, meaning the car handles beautifully and feels magnificent to drive. Its Spartan character makes this a real driver’s car.
Not only was the Mark III an engineering masterpiece, it was also a successful competitor in motorsport. Many 3000 models took part in prestigious races such as the Rallye Monte-Carlo and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with noteworthy success, bearing testament to their technical superiority and performance.
UOur Healey specimen was manufactured under production lot no. 28 at the BMC factory in Abingdon and was initially shipped to the USA in July 1964. In the late 80s, this Healey returned to Europe via England and passed through customs in Germany in July 1990. The original vehicle registration document is available.
The BJ8 was registered as a veteran in Switzerland in 2017 and sold to its current owner in 2019. This is a beautiful Mark III that has been comprehensively restored over the years. The car’s paintwork and interior show some signs of use, but overall the Healey makes a great impression. The last MFK (Swiss MOT) was carried out in the canton of St. Gallen in August 2023. A legendary Healey in need of a new home.
